Bancroft School News

THE APA TEST RESULTS ARE IN
The New Jersey Alternate Proficiency Assessment (APA) scores are in.  73 Bancroft students participated in the APA during the 2009-2010 school year.  Of these, 90% scored Proficient or higher in Language Arts Literacy, and 95% scored Proficient or Advanced Proficient in Mathematics.  86% of the students who also participated in the Science content area (grades 4, 8 and 11 only) scored Proficient or  Advance Proficient.

The APA is a portfolio assessment designed to measure progress toward achieving New Jersey's state educational standards for those students who are unable to participate in the general assessments.  For the APA, teachers collected student performance data during instructional activities covering specific skills from September 2009 until February 2010.  Portfolios were then submitted to the NJ Department of Education for scoring.

Well done Bancroft Students!!! AND Congratulations to the Bancroft Staff…

Students' website wins international award
Photos, stories behind public art bring works to life
A group of 15 Bancroft students has won a second-place award in the international CyberFair competition, for their website on "roadside art."

The site, which competed in the Local Music and Art category, documents an extensive array of public artwork - from building-size murals to life-size statues, architecture and even live art (think Elvis impersonator!). The students took more than a dozen field trips, conducted interviews and researched the works for a thorough and visually stunning review of diverse pieces throughout South Jersey and Philadelphia.

The 14- to 18-year-old students are members of Sherri Colan's Secondary Academics morning class, and were guided by Senior Learning Consultant Susan Powell. One student worked with Learning Consultant Sr. Krista Mote.

The annual CyberFair competition, run by GlobalSchoolNet, engages students in powerful educational storytelling activities, which benefit students and their communities. Please enjoy all of the entries on the website -- for a virtual journey around the globe -- and learn how education can unite people and communities.

Congratulations to the students and staff of The Bancroft School for this wonderful achievement!

Welcome to The Bancroft School's web site.  There are plenty of resources available for families and guardians, so we hope you will take the time to browse the site and let us know what we can do to make it better.
